THE BRAND

Mária Štvrtecká is a Slovak fashion designer operating under her eponymous brand. Her work focuses on patterns and fabric textures, emphasizing innovative processing. She experiments with form, accentuating it through playful and original details. Each collection begins with a story—a concept that gives the collection its unique character and direction. She draws inspiration from society, focusing on issues that resonate with her personally, thereby creating a dialogue between fashion design and social themes.

The creative process is highly collaborative. In partnership with textile artisans, she experiments with prints, textures, and techniques to create fabrics as unique as the silhouettes they shape. Her ability to harmonize contrasting and diverse patterns into wearable and cohesive pieces has become a hallmark of her work.

Instead of the minimalism and monochromatic materials often dominating today's fashion scene, she replaces them with vibrant colors and bold patterns that bring new energy and dynamics to clothing. While minimalist approaches frequently rely on neutral palettes, her work takes a contrasting approach, where every pattern and color tells its own story. The bold designs and textures she uses not only break monotony but also create a visual dialogue that attracts attention and radiates individuality.

Her approach also opens new possibilities for business fashion, where colorful and patterned pieces offer an alternative to traditional monochromatic styles while maintaining a sophisticated and professional look. The brand focuses on timeless design, making garments valuable additions to wardrobes that can be worn for many years.

Sustainability also plays a crucial role. The designer seeks various ways to minimize the environmental impact of her work. Beyond sustainable principles, her collections emphasize wearability and ethical production practices. She primarily uses natural materials such as wool, cotton, viscose, and silk, as well as deadstock materials that would otherwise remain unused or unsold in storage. By utilizing these materials, designers conserve resources and reduce the ecological footprint of production. Additionally, her collections include GOTS-certified fabrics that meet strict environmental and social criteria, ensuring that textile products are made from organic materials under ethical conditions.

Her collections consist of practical garments primarily intended for everyday wear. More distinctive pieces can complement or enhance minimalist outfits or serve as statement pieces for special occasions.

Mária Štvrtecká's work strives to transcend traditional boundaries of fashion, merging aesthetic vision with values that reflect the current direction of society. Each piece is not only a reflection of her creativity but also a testament to her commitment to sustainability, ethical principles, and enduring quality. Her brand celebrates individuality and focuses on creating pieces that resonate with wearers on a deeper level. It embodies a philosophy rooted in authenticity, innovation, and sophistication.

THE COLLECTION

In the FRAG_ILITY project, I explore the character of the present time. I examine human behavior, the diversity of opinions, and the polarization of society. The way social networks function isolates people within their information bubbles, where they are exposed only to a one-sided view of events and tendencies, further strengthening polarization and isolation from different perspectives. The vulnerability of society also manifests in disharmony and a decreasing willingness to communicate respectfully and with understanding. The fragility I find in society I perceive as something brittle, easily broken, and weak against force, yet I also perceive it through its gentleness, sensitivity, and understanding. On one hand, I see people in their fragile glass bubbles, which can easily break during interactions; on the other hand, I perceive fragility in the context of consideration and understanding, which are crucial for communication and building stable foundations in society.
