THE DESIGNER
Karolina Ferencz is currently pursuing her master's degree in fashion at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. She completed her undergraduate studies at MOME as well, specializing in apparel and printed textile design in 2023. After high school, she acquired the basics of the profession at the Jelky András Secondary School of Applied Arts, which she supplemented with practical experience gained at 91STUDIO. At 91STUDIO, she worked on various projects, gaining deeper insight into the world of fashion and textile design, which greatly contributed to her professional development. Karolina has also participated in domestic fashion events where she showcased her work and expanded her professional network. In her designs, she emphasizes sustainability and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern approaches. Her garments are often adorned with vibrant colors and unique patterns, resulting from experimental tailoring. She often draws inspiration from nature and cultural heritage.
THE COLLECTION
Her collection this year is built around the theme of solitude and community. The foundation of her analysis is Péter Korniss's photography series, which illustrates how rural communal life transforms into urban alienation and how individuals, once part of close-knit communities, experience a form of internal solitude.
The interplay between Transylvanian traditions and modern life is a key element of her concept, as traditional attire represents both a sense of communal identity and a tool for adaptation and transformation between communities. Clothing, as a formative factor of identity, reflects various layers and variations that are part of personal and cultural transformation.
The ultimate goal of her design is to show how fashion can simultaneously preserve the past while responding to the challenges of the contemporary world.
