MONIKA MANDAC (SK)

THE DESIGNER

Monika, a graduate of a master's degree in fashion design, a photographer, a researcher and an all-round art enthusiast. She studied textiles at a high school of art, where she gained a thorough knowledge of textile materials, design and handling of textiles, which later proved to be a great advantage in college. She completed my bachelor's and master's degrees at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. During her undergraduate studies, she spent a semester at Nottingham Trent University, England, and during her master's degree, she completed an internship in Venice, Italy, where she had the opportunity to work for two fashion brands that included both menswear and womenswear, as well as in a fashion marketing agency, where I came into close contact with the fashion business and production. She also ended up as the main photographer for the brand Plùs Que Ma Vìe. During her master’s degree she has also completed an internship with Slovak fashion designer Pavol Dendis. In her own designs, she is inspired by poetry and art, with thematic overlaps in feminism, sustainability and deconstructivism. She often collaborates with other designers and influencers, enjoying the connections and relationships this artistic environment provides. As for her work she would probably clearly characterize her work with emotion and contrast, which are the main factors in her work. You could say that she can be inspired by moments themselves, art, people in my immediate or distant surroundings, she is also inspired by people who do what they love, their stories, she can also be inspired by food, the fabric itself, but all of it has an emotional essence that is the key to my work. A large part of my inspiration is also my dreams, which are always carried in strong emotion. She prefers to use monochromatic colors, because for her these colors can carry different emotions at the same time and most people can find themselves in them.

THE BRAND

Slow fashion brand based in Slovakia, who's work is characterized primarily by constructivism and elements of deconstructivism, with the aim of discovering mutual consensus and balance. In addition to women's fashion, it also works on men's clothing, which results in timeless unisex pieces.

THE COLLECTION

The “Discordant Beauty” collection embodies the essence of deconstruction and sophistication, aiming to captivate and innovate through a unique blend of textures, silhouettes and asymmetrical aesthetics. Inspired by the concept of deconstructivism, the collection challenges traditional fashion norms by celebrating rawness and unpredictability, finding beauty in chaos and imperfection. A predominantly black color palette, accented with white, gray and a touch of brown, symbolizes mystery, purity and earthiness. Asymmetrical silhouettes, layering and mixed textures such as leather, silk and knits create dynamic, flowing garments with raw, undone edges that create an imperfect elegance.
