THE DESIGNERS
Zsanett Fábián
Every legend begins as whispers in the dark. For Zsanett it began with her hands - shaping hair into forms that spoke of identity and art. In the buzzing streets of Budapest’s fashion scene, her talent became impossible to ignore. Six months into her career, she was working with the youngest, boldest creators, crafting visions for photoshoots and TV screens. Her ascent was unstoppable, but this was only the prologue.
The story truly begins in 2016 in the labyrinthine street of Camden Town, London. Among the curious winding paths, she stumbled into General Eyewear - a place of stories etched into acetate. There, she discovered frames that weren’t just glasses but artifacts, relics from a forgotten craft. She chose a pair, delicate, yet commanding and unknowingly carried the seed of a new obsession back home.
It was 2020 when the whispers became impossible to ignore. In the stillness of lockdown, Zsanett picked up a jeweller’s saw and a piece of acetate. With no guide, no map and no master to teach her, she made her fist cut. The result was the Brynn, a frame with edges that weren’t yet perfect , but with a soul that burned bright. That frame became her beacon - a symbol of resilience and her refusal to settle for anything less than her vision.
Frame after frame, mistake after mistake, she taught herself the art of frame-making. In a country with no schools or teachers for the craft, she became her own guide, chasing qualities that could rival the best.
Okkul was born not in the light but in the shadows, through persistence, trial, and an unyielding desire to create something eternal.
The Brynn still sits beside her - a crooked, uneven relic of the beginning. Zsanett’s journey is okkul’s origin. And this is just the beginning.
Szabolcs Major
From his first job as a salesperson, Szabolcs was drawn to something that resonated deeper than the objects themselves. It was the artistry behind them, the craftsmanship that told a story, and the way a beautifully made object could become a companion for life.
Life is never just about work, Szabolcs immersed himself in Budapest’s hardcore punk and metal scene, where music became more that sound: it was a force. He played in bands, letting the raw unrelenting energy guide him.
Even in the chaos he was drawn to art with bold meaning and haunting vision. Paintings, songs, photographs - all carried timeless stories, echoes of the power he would one day bring to his craft.
Szabolcs’s love for eyewear begann in the same place as Zsanett’s. He began collectig frames that stood out, those that added more than just style to an outfit, but a piece of a wearer’s story. slowly, his collection grew, each pair carefully chosen for its audacity, its craftsmanship, its soul.
When zsanett’s vision began to take shape and okkul was born, Szabolcs knew this was something more than a passion project. He threw himself into the research, learning the intricacies of machines and frame-making, and soon it became clear that what had started as an obsession, was now a business. Embracing the role of sales and distribution, Szabolcs found himself at the heart of okkul, a brand built on everything he believed in - uncomrpoising quality, bold design, and above all stories that live beyond time.
Today Szabolcs is the voice behind the messages we send, and the hand that answers your questions. He still does what he loves most: connecting people to objects that go beyond the ordinary, pieces that elevate the wearer’s personality to something more than just fashion. These are objects that captivate, objects that enhance. These are okkul spectacles.
Two souls crossed paths in the shadows of Budapest, drawn together by a force neither could resist. United not only by vision, but by a bond that runs deeper, they set out to create eyewear that transcends the ordinary - steeped in mystery, history, and purpose.
They are the founders of okkul, the creators of spectacles that tell stories, the visionaries of the brand, and partners to each other in both life and craft, bound by a shared passion to design pieces that resonate with souls.
THE BRAND
okkul is a visionary brand that emerged a few years ago from the minds of Zsanett Fábián and Szabolcs Major. The couple has a relentless passion for unique eyewear, so at the beginning the frames were created just for their own use. As the love of the creative process got deeper, more and more shapes and frames have been made okkul embarked on a journey to create handmade frames that transcend mere accessories. Working in the heart of Budapest, they created a brand that fuses comfort and quality, ensuring that each frame becomes a defining statement for those who wear them.
Over the years, okkul has grown not just as a brand, but as a family. From the very beginning, it was a dream for Zsani and Szabolcs, but it wouldn't be the same without the incredible team that formed around the brand, from friends and family. Each member of this team has brought their unique talents, passion, and dedication to make the brand what it is today.
Crafted from cellulose acetate plastics, derived from the natural cellulose found in sources like wood pulp and cotton linter, every piece by okkul caresses the skin with gentle grace and minimizes allergenic reactions. However, it is not only the exquisite materials that make these frames stand out. Each piece undergoes a detailed handcrafted process, from precise cutting and sawing to delicate gluing and the finishing touches. This dedication to craftsmanship shines through, imbuing every frame with the brand's distinctive soul.
The completion of okkul's first collection was preceded by two years of research and development. This intensive pursuit of perfection ensures unparalleled quality and uniqueness, strengthening the brand's position as a true creator of fine eyewear.
The brand started with just a few models and currently offers a captivating selection of around 10 distinct shapes, showcasing an array of colors and decoration. Moreover, their versatile frames can accommodate a wide range of lenses, further enhancing the individuality and customization that lie at the core of the okkul experience. The brand has grown beyond Budapest, with pieces available now in Hamburg, Rome and Japan, reflecting its international appeal and reach.
Continuously expanding its horizon to connect with people who share the same passion for high-quality eyewear, or handmade products, the brand has reached an equally diverse and unique customer base as the frames themselves. On an international level, the brand had the chance to create special frames for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. In Hungary okkul has collaborated with Dzsúdló and created a frame together for his new brand.
