THE DESIGNER
Victoria Wang is a young fashion designer who is currently studying her masters degree. Her roots and growing environment allowed her to combine Western and Eastern cultures, creating a harmony that is always present in her designs. She designed her graduation collection, titled „Sense of Unity” in a similar way. Innovative, extravagant, fashionable and modern styles can be observed in her work. The artistry that she acquired in her previous studies can be recognized in her designs. She had the opportunity to showcase her clothes in several places such as in magazines, video clips and exhibitions.
THE COLLECTION
In Mingwei Lee’s Our Labyrinth performance is created based on his experiences during his trip to Myanmar. In the performance two dancers create waves from a pile of rice, reflecting their inner states of mind, slowly following the spinning of the grains of rice. At the end of the performance, all of this appears uniformly in one painting, so their emotions and thoughts are united through the painting.
Expanding her research inspiration, she was interested in the sense of unity. Buddhist monks’ garments in Myanmar are red robes, which are organically draped around the body. The design concept is to design a capsule collection, where the connection between the 6 looks shows the union and the transition by combining this organicity with the 2023 fashion trends. The two end points of the collection are the all-white, almost office look inspired by the dancers from the performance, and the all-red, organic look inspired by buddhist garment.
The other looks from the collection represent the union and the transition between the two end points of the collection. The designer does this with red and white material of different characters, as well as in creasingly organic shapes and silhouettes.
